Making Peace With Where You Are

There’s a great quote from psychologist Carl Rogers that perfectly sums up this week‘s theme: “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself as I am, then I can change.”

Making peace with where you are means letting go of the struggle to avoid being where you are. The struggle is not only futile, it is counterproductive. When you cannot accept your life as it is right now, you pour your valuable energy into a pattern of resistance that actually serves to keep you stuck.

But once you can accept your situation, whatever it is, you can begin to move forward.

The Key Is In Your Expectation

One of the reasons we resist the present is that we fear it will keep us from having what we want in the future. We feel that to accept where we are would mean resigning ourselves to an ongoing, unhappy situation. But the opposite is true. Only by accepting what is can you begin to change it.

No Matter What The Current Situation Is, You Have The Power To Create A Life That’s Right For You

When you are fighting against where you are, you are cutting yourself off from your own power to create. But once you fully accept where you are, “where you are” becomes a platform from which you can build. When your expectation is once again positive, new opportunities and choices become visible.

Once you see your current situation as a stepping stone to positive change, then you will be able to access your own internal resources and begin to move forward in a whole new way.

Releasing the Past

This week on my internet radio show (The Women’s Transformation Show at http://blogtalkradio.com/Kimberly-Wilborn)) we’ll be talking about releasing the past.

In order to be balanced and free in the present, we need to free ourselves from ideas and beliefs we’ve outgrown and, even more importantly, make peace with our own personal histories.

Releasing the past can take many forms such as releasing old relationships, releasing old vows, and releasing old dreams. We can be holding onto old goals, old guilts, and old self-images.

There’s an easy way to tell if there’s something from your past that needs to be released: you have a negative feeling when you think of it.

This week we’ll be focusing on making peace with your past, and telling a new story about your life. The things that cause us pain are the meanings we give to events, not the events themselves.

Set an intention to find a truer, hope-filled meaning in the events of your past as we explore ways to set yourself free and move forward with clarity, peace, and passion.

Women Feeling Overwhelmed - Are You Trying To Do Too Much?

The state of feeling overwhelmed by things you have to do usually falls into one of two categories:

A) Other people are overloading your plate and you’re agreeing to it
or
B) You’re overloading your own plate.

Either way it’s a boundary violation. Even if you’re doing it to yourself! Yes, yes, I hear you saying, “It’s not that I WANT to do all this by myself. I HAVE to do all this just to survive!” In order to find a way out of feeling overwhelmed, it’s important to consider that statement carefully.

Is your sense of self-worth tied to how well you can fill other people’s requests? Are you afraid of admitting that you can’t do everything? Are you afraid of asking for support? What is it, exactly, that keeps you from seeking help and support? What keeps you from expecting support?

Are you invalidating the internal sensor that tells you when you are trying to do too much? Everyone has natural boundaries, and when those boundaries are violated, we feel negative emotion. When you attempt to do too much, you always get internal signals that your boundaries have been violated.

Unfortunately, most of us disregard our own boundaries because we don’t trust their wisdom. We attempt to find safety and security in our accomplishments, and we often feel bad about ourselves when we can't achieve our goals. But it’s only by following our own instincts and listening to our own deep wisdom that we find balance and a sense of being productive without feeling overwhelmed.

Women Feeling Overwhelmed - How To Tune in To What is Important

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when we’ve got too much too do, but we can also feel
overwhelmed by not knowing what to do. It can feel as if we’re
surrounded by tasks that are all clamoring for our attention, and we can end up feeling so paralyzed that sometimes we don’t do any of them.

At times like that the answer is to get in touch with your core intentions. Regardless
of how it may seem, all tasks are not vital, and the are not equally important. Once
you tune in to your authentic self and get in touch with who you really are, it’s easy to

Women Feeling Overwhelmed - The First Steps to Going Beyond

Are you feeling overwhelmed by responsibilities, demands, and choices? Well, you’re not alone. Feeling overwhelmed is an epidemic among women today. It keeps us going around in circles, and it hinders our ability to truly create.

This is the Dictionary.com definition of overwhelmed:

1) To surge over and submerge; engulf: waves overwhelmed the rocky shoreline.
2) a: To defeat completely and decisively: Our team overwhelmed the visitors by 40 points.
b: To affect deeply in mind or emotion: Despair overwhelmed me.
3) To present with an excessive amount: They overwhelmed us with expensive gifts.

4) To turn over; upset: The small craft was overwhelmed by the enormous waves.

The key to understanding and going beyond the issue of feeling overwhelmed is found in definition number three. If you are feeling overwhelmed right now, it’s because you are experiencing an excessive amount of something. And I’m willing to bet that something isn’t expensive gifts!

The first step is to stop blaming yourself and to recognize that you are feeling overwhelmed because you are believing you need to do too much, or you are attempting to choose from too many choices, or your focus is too wide or too far into the future.

The second step is to start validating your own boundaries. Your boundaries are set in place naturally by your own deep inner wisdom. When you are attempting to do too much, your natural wisdom will signal you that a boundary is being violated, and that signal will take the form of negative emotion.

The next time this happens, instead of believing that it’s your own fault for not being able to do more, recognize that you are forcing yourself to do too much. This idea may seem foreign at first, or it may not seem to offer a solution. But it’s enough, at first, to just consider these ideas. With time they will sink down into your consciousness, merge with your own wisdom, and emerge as personal solutions.

Women’s Personal Success - Empowerment and Happiness

What keeps you from claiming personal success, right now, in this moment?
It could be time for a new mindset concerning success. We tend to think success is something we achieve, and so we tie it to specific achievements. Unfortunately, the achievements we think we need to reach in order to be a success are usually yet-to-be attained. Or worse, we do reach a state of undeniable achievement, only to find that, deep down, we still don’t feel like a success.
What is it you feel you need to do in order to consider yourself a success? Lose a certain amount of weight and keep it off? Earn a certain amount of money? Achieve a certain level of happiness within a relationship?
How much does the concept of power have to do with success? In your mind, is a successful woman a powerful woman? And if so, how comfortable are you with idea of being powerful?
What were your parents’ beliefs about success? Did they consider themselves to be successful? Does your current support network of friends, family, and associates support you in feeling like a success?
I believe that the feeling of being empowered and the feeling of being a success go hand-in-hand. Being empowered is not the same as being powerful. Being powerful is something we tend to think of in terms of having power over others. Empowerment, on the other hand, has only to do with yourself. It’s giving yourself the power to make choices based only on what feels right to you.

Your feeling of personal success is also related to your level of happiness. And your happiness is based, in large part, on how much of your life is spent doing what you love (versus doing what you “have to” do).

The better you know yourself, and the more true you are to yourself, the more successful you'll be.

Women’s Personal Success - Do Your Beliefs Support You?

Yesterday’s blog post focused on getting clear about what you want to do, be, and have. Today I’m going to ask you to examine your own beliefs about what’s truly possible for you.

Do you believe, at a deep level, that it’s actually possible for you to be, do, and have, the things you want to be, do, and have? If not, why not? Again, look at your motivations and make sure they come from inside you and not from someone else.

Then look more deeply at your beliefs. Where did they originate? Most of us base our beliefs of what is possible on what’s happened in the past. According to this belief, if you haven’t achieved it so far, you’re not likely to achieve it, ever.

This doesn’t actually make that much sense, (if it did, no new inventions would ever come into being!) but we believe it anyway. Consider transforming your beliefs into ones that support you in being, doing, and having what you want.

For instance, I believe that my true desires originate deep inside me, in a spiritually wise part of myself. I believe that I’m <be>meant to be and do the things I want to be and do, and that by being that bigger version of myself, I help life expand in a powerfully positive way.

I believe that the more you connect with your authentic self and your true desires, the easier it will be for you to express the beauty of your authentic self out into the world.

Take this opportunity to re-examine your own beliefs and make sure that they support you in living a big, passionate, satisfying life.

Women's Personal Success - Claiming Your Success

Personal success...what is it, really? Do you, right now, consider yourself a success?
In my life I've had a tendency to always be striving toward success, but not really claiming it today, in the present. In fact, the whole concept of "success" seems to be something we hold at arms length. There always seems to be some component of success that's just out of reach.
This week my free internet radio show ( The Women's Transformation Show at http://blogtalkradio.com/Kimberly-Wilborn) will be devoted to finding ways for each one of us to claim our own unique version of success, today, and more and more with each day that passes.
The first step, as always, is to get clear. Get quiet and ask yourself, "What is it that I want to be, and do, and have?" Think holistically, not just in terms of your work or career, but also your love life, your family, your self-expression, and how you feel in your body.
Then go deeper. Get in touch with why you want the things you want. Sift through your own motivations, discarding the ones that come from outside you, until you're left with reasons that strike a chord deep within you. These are signposts
from your authentic self.
See where you are following those signposts in your life right now, and claim that success. Identify the places in your life where you could live more fully from your own internal wisdom and signposts, and know that as you do, you will be able to more and more claim personal success.
